A visual mobile weather app using leading meteorological models

Terrario is a simple map-based weather app that transforms how users interact with weather data. Unlike traditional weather apps that show basic forecasts, Terrario provides an intuitive visual interface that allows users to explore weather patterns anywhere in the globe through interactive radar maps and real-time weather visualization.

Capabilites

IOS & Andriod development, real-time weather data integration, GIS Raster system, interactive map interface, location-based services, offline caching

Challenges

Creating an intuitive map-based interface for complex weather data visualization.

Developing a GIS raster system to show rain, clouds and temperature, Optimizing performance for real-time weather data updates and smooth map interactions.

Outcomes

A beautifully designed weather app that makes exploring global weather patterns intuitive and engaging.

Backend and frontend allowing for in depth weather reporting of the whole globe.

Terrario brings weather data to life through an elegant, map-centric design that puts visual exploration at the heart of the weather experience. Users can seamlessly navigate anywhere on the globe to discover weather patterns, radar data, and forecasts with simple, intuitive gestures.

Often weather apps are either to simplistic and don’t give enough information to make a good decisions or are extremely technical and are difficult to understand and navigate. Terrario aims to be the middle ground; we want to give users enough information in a easily comsumable manner to be able to make a good decision at any point in their day or week.

One of the key design decisions we made was to make all app navigation work through one modal, so it is simple to do any action in the app, whether that is searching for a place, favouriting a place or viewing what the weather will be doing at a different time. We also tried to strip away any complicated technical jargon that is commonly seen in other visual weather apps, i.e showing the dew point, wind accumalation or wet bulb temperature. Frankly, most people don’t need to see these, and it makes the application many factors harder to use and get to the point of making a decision.

You can download the app on IOS via the Apple App Store with a Andriod version coming soon.
